Sacrament of Reconciliation

Getting Ready for Confession:

Before you come to Confession at Saint Mariana de Paredes Church, we invite you to take a moment to prepare your heart for this sacred encounter. Just as we seek to reflect the welcoming spirit of our parish, here are some friendly guidelines to help you make the most of this sacrament:

Before Confession:

Pray: Begin by inviting God into your heart. Ask Him to open your heart wide, guiding you to make a sincere and heartfelt confession.

Reflect: Take a gentle journey within, looking back on your actions and attitudes. Consider the ways in which you may have distanced yourself from God, hurt others, or even wounded your own soul. You may find it helpful to use an Examination of Conscience as a tool to assist you in preparing for confession.

During Confession:

Confess: When you come to Confession, know that you are welcomed with open arms. Confidently share your sins aloud with the priest. Remember, the priest is there to listen, guide, and extend the loving mercy of Jesus.

Receive Penance: The priest will offer you a penance—a set of prayers or actions that will help you draw closer to God and mend what may have been broken.

Make an Act of Contrition: Say a heartfelt prayer expressing your sorrow for the sins you’ve committed. Request the grace to turn away from sin and strive for a life in accordance with God’s will.

Receive Absolution: As you listen, the priest will pray words of absolution aloud, reconciling you with God and bestowing upon you His healing grace.

After Confession:

Celebrate: Your confession is a beautiful reminder of God’s boundless love and mercy. Celebrate this moment of reconciliation, knowing you are cherished by our Heavenly Father.

Commit: Embrace your penance and follow through on it. By doing so, you not only draw closer to God but also share His tenderness with the world around you.
